“As the highest court in the land deliberates your case, [Edith] Windsor v. United States, you, our beloved graduate, are a moving testament to the power and tenacity of this nation’s evolving search for justice and equality,” New York University President John Sexton said at the school’s commencement Wednesday, presenting her with the school’s presidential medal. It was my honor and privilege to have been present for this. With as much as I’ve complained about NYU graduate school, commencement was amazing. President Sexton’s speech and presentation, as well as David Boise’s speech about equality and the struggle we still have to fight for equal rights to ALL our citizens brought tears to my eyes. I’m proud to say I’m an NYU 2013 graduate for this alone.
